An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD/DO) who specializes in medical and surgical eye care, including cataract, glaucoma, retina, and advanced procedures. An optometrist provides routine eye exams, vision correction, and manages certain eye conditions. At Suncoast Eye Center, our team works collaboratively to ensure complete eye care under one roof.
Most adults should have a comprehensive eye exam every year. Patients with diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, or other eye conditions may need more frequent visits.

Many comprehensive exams include dilation to fully evaluate the retina and optic nerve. If dilation is necessary, we’ll let you know beforehand and provide guidance for driving afterward.
